Given all that was and what is to come, a common word links them all. The work connection. An ability to provide information of all shapes and kind to none common sense sigma. This ability existed long before the creation of mankind.

It can be viewed in two or more ways but, I know of two only beings; YOU KNOW WHO AND WHO KNOWS. Most of us got to thank our parents, relatives or many other unknown characters that help us achieve our goals behind closes doors.
Most opportunities like travelling abroad were preorganized before we even had the time to say, "Why". Knowing different people, cultures and breaking past language barriers has proven to be a source of opportunity to achieve even greater dreams over the sky. For example, a poor boy can only dream below his ceiling which is what is imaginary and real to reach but is also impossible from where they are now.
That's when having a broader network comes in handy.
Next is WHO KNOWS YOU!
YEAH! HOMIE. There are just so many people who see you every day but don't know you in terms of what you do or are good at. For that to be crossed, you have to showcase your talents to the public and if possible go viral so that those that missed you will wish they didn't. This has been made easier throughout the years with the available development community system called the internet. With it, you can contact, share and even comment on others bio, so that they get noticed about your actions about them.
But the system is so crowded that, it might take a million years to make up the notice. If you don't match the vibe of virality.
Potential & Opportunity
Here, most people view skills from which money can be generated, on social platforms like; soccer, swimming, dancing and so on.
For Seafarer working the dream is gold. As the say goes, red foods don't survive on crooked soil.
Opportunities in life come as a result of the choices we choose to path fate in hand with. Anything else is just a mirage of pure rotten desires.
Unmatched Ambition
How many times have you decided to do something but end up doing nothing? The reason is simple, you lacked ambition. I define ambition as a first-class singularity will of attraction that not just shapes one body and soul. He who has ambitious or strong driving is one step closer to his goal(s) than he imagined.
NB: A powerless person is not necessarily weak. It might be that at that very moment, he/she was over warm in a particular field. This happens every day, with people making more (money, friend, power) than others. But you see, making it, is just part of the problem. Staying in the making is the real-world deal.
